Synopsis

Rust dedicated himself to basic alchemical research within the association, but the new president—a former bureaucrat who dismissed foundational science—gutted his department's funding and reassigned him to menial transmutation work. When his budget is eliminated entirely and the department dissolved, Rust accepts an invitation from an old academy friend to help develop her frontier territory. Unknown to the association, Rust is actually one of the world's greatest alchemists; the exceptional materials he once produced were irreplaceable, and his departure creates chaos. Now free from institutional constraints, Rust pursues his craft with renewed passion in the borderlands.
